Sports

Arthur Pixler is a retired educator with nearly 40 years of experience in the field. Most recently, he worked as an elementary school principal. He also served as the Superindentent of a small school district in Iowa for many years. He retired in 2015 to commit more time to his family and community.

During his impressive career, Arthur Pixler played the role of coach, teacher, elementary school principal, middle school principal, and superintendent. He was also a coordinator for special education and gifted programs.

Although he is officially retired, Arthur Pixler still enjoys spending time working in the classroom. He frequently works as a substitute teacher, but he enjoys his free time, as well. He keeps busy by traveling, reading, and spending time with his grandchildren.

Arthur Pixler also plays several roles committees and is an active member of his community. For example, he serves on the Board of Directors for the North Union Community School District, as well as the Fenton Cooperative Telephone Company. He is also a trustee on the Board of the Rowley Memorial Masonic Home. He previously served as a trustee and Chairman of the Grand Lodge Masonic Scholarship Endowment Committee. He is also a previous member and Chairman of the Grand Lodge of the Iowa Finance Committee.

In addition to these roles, Arthur Pixler serves as the Chairman of the Staff Parish Relations Committee for the First United Methodist Church in Fenton. He is also a trustee for the Grand Lodge of Iowa Masonic Charitable Educational Corporation. Arthur also belongs to the Fenton Community Club and has played “Santa” there for the past ten Christmas seasons.

Arthur Pixler received his undergraduate education from Wayne State College. He graduated cum laude in 1974 with a Bachelor of Arts in education. In 1987, he earned his Master of Science degree in education from Drake University. He also holds an Advanced Studies Certificate in the Superintendency from the University of Northern Iowa. Additionally, Arthur has participated in dozens of professional development activities, including A.L.I.C.E. training, technology workshops, and social skills and intervention training.

Since 2019, Arthur Pixler’s most time-consuming work has been as the Grand Treasurer for the Grand Lodge of Iowa. He greatly enjoys the role, though, because it allows him to travel all over Iowa, participating in a variety of activities. These activities include participating in masonic degrees, attending formal receptions for his Grand Lodge brothers, re-dedicating masonic lodges, participating in cornerstone-laying ceremonies for several public and masonic buildings. Unfortunately, all of these activities have been halted during the pandemic, but he looks forward to traveling again in the near future.

Arthur Pixler has a strong interest in politics and sports and how the two affect our culture. He has noticed that, since the COVID-19 pandemic began, the country seems to be dividing, and he believes that sports could play a role at bridging some of the division that our country is currently experiencing.
